Woolworths & Coles’ Palm Oil Hot Cross Buns

Woolworths and Coles have come under scrutiny from environmental groups and concerned consumers for including palm oil in their hot cross buns.

Palm oil cultivation in Indonesia and Malaysia has been criticised for destroying the habitat of endangered species such as the Orangutan.

An image of the hot cross buns packaging disclosing the inclusion of the controversial ingredient has spread virally across Facebook today, with the original post by awareness organisation Trees for Tommy being shared over 16,000 times.

Australian Ethical’s major community grant recipient in 2012 was Rainforest Rescue – who are working to save the last viable habitat of the Sumatran Orangutan.

Australian Ethical Investment avoids investing in companies that cause unnecessary harm to the environment. It does not invest in Coles or Woolworths.
