Solar Citizens are a people-powered campaign that work to demonstrate that action on climate change has broad benefits for all Australians – whether someone is saving on power bills with rooftop solar or slashing harmful pollution using electric transport. Their mission is for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy and clean transport.

Solar Citizens’ Electric Ute Roadshow will demonstrate the benefits of electric utes to everyday regional Australians by driving an electric ute to strategic rural and regional areas, hosting community events to engage the general public; critically, tradies, farmers, and campers. Solar Citizens aim to build a positive story about the benefits of EVs right across the country to get Australia up to speed and enable the movement to win strong clean transport policies.

Totally Renewable Yackandandah's mission is for Yackandandah to achieve a minimum of 100% net renewable energy by 2024. They do this through strong community leadership, on-ground actions, wisely attracting and investing funds and changing community behaviours through education.

Totally Renewable Yackandandah’s vision is to activate a series of ‘resilience hubs’ across their township so that the Yackandandah community continue the quest toward 100% renewable energy and ready themselves for forthcoming emergency weather and fire events.

As a key component of this, they will install a scaled community solar and battery system at the community sports stadium, which will be available during emergencies and otherwise generate local, clean and affordable power. This will reduce emissions, provide cost savings to the community and provide an example of renewable energy security for other communities to replicate.

Cellular Agriculture Australia is dedicated to developing a future-fit workforce, open access research and an enabling environment for a thriving cellular agriculture industry in Australia.

Cellular agriculture creates animal-derived products using cell-based biotechnologies, instead of whole animals. It presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to rewrite animal agriculture and have a positive impact on climate change, biodiversity loss, animal suffering and public health.

Cellular Agriculture Australia’s sector-building and advocacy program will advance Australia's cellular agriculture sector and enable its impact potential to be realised. Their work will centre around five common and non-competitive priority areas in collaboration with the sector:

1. Securing a future-fit talent pipeline for the sector
2. Enabling a consistent and accessible regulatory framework
3. Influencing the policy environment
4. Social acceptance of cellular agriculture (cellag)
5. Ensuring infrastructure is accessible

Regen Melbourne is an alliance of more than 140 organisations working together to create a thriving city within planetary boundaries. They co-create collective action through unique alliances and impactful research. Formed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Regen Melbourne is a research lab and a backbone function for ambitious demonstration projects.

This project will focus on growing the number of partner organisations across business, non-profit, government and universities and their ability to collaborate, as well as increasing the public awareness of doughnut economics.

The goal of this work is to bring Melbourne into the safe & just space between our social foundation and ecological ceiling.

Y's Housing designs and develops net-zero homes for low-income families - that are high-quality, yet affordable. Y’s Housing goal is to facilitate the delivery of 1,000 new net-zero affordable homes by 2030.

This project will support their two demonstration projects in Melbourne’s north, which will show that net-zero housing can be affordable to those who need it most - by combining shared-equity finance with off-site construction methods - and in so doing demonstrate the commercial path to 1,000s of new net-zero affordable homes - well-located in the great Australian suburbs, near our existing schools, community and infrastructure.

This pilot project has the potential to inspire the adoption of their method across 30,000 new community housing dwellings, scheduled for delivery by 2027.

Grata Fund builds a fairer world by harnessing the power of high impact strategic litigation to create structural change. Australians are regularly blocked from exercising this basic democratic right because of insurmountable financial barriers to groundbreaking litigation, making it almost impossible to hold powerful governments and corporate leaders accountable. Grata Fund breaks down these barriers in three keys areas: climate justice, human rights, and democratic freedoms.

This project will support Grata Fund’s lawyers representing Uncle Pabai and Uncle Paul – First Nations leaders from remote islands in Guda Maluyligal in the Torres Strait – who are taking the Australian Government to court for failing to prevent climate change.

This Australian Climate Case is the first time that anyone in Australia has argued that the whole Federal Government – not just one Minister or agency – has a duty to protect people from climate harm. If successful, they’ll be protecting all Australians from climate change.

Open Corridor works to support a safe and open corridor for people and the planet, through person-centred digital transformation. They envision a future where all communities are equipped with inclusive, science-based tools to guide the transition to a healthy, prosperous and sustainable world.

Accurately monitoring land use and land-use change is critical to reducing deforestation and supporting carbon sinks. Timely information on the drivers of land-use change is needed for policy makers and investors to identify supply chain risks and align decisions with science-based targets.

This project uses smart technologies – satellite, big data, and machine learning – to monitor changes to our planet and provide data-driven insights to support the protection and restoration of land sinks and ecosystems. The project outputs (tools and data) will empower Australian investors, fund managers, policy-makers, businesses, and communities with timely information on how their investments contribute to global deforestation and land-use change. This improved understanding will help mitigate supply chain risks and improve long-term environmental and social outcomes worldwide.

The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University. It brings together over 150 research and supporting staff and over 100 post-graduate students into one cohesive research group. TropWATER provides a unique opportunity for multidisciplinary research activities by integrating JCU’s aquatic expertise into one unit, which covers the full spectrum of freshwater, estuarine and marine waters, with expertise from ecology, water quality, hydrology, engineering, physics, oceanography, modelling and resource economics.

This project will transition a single site from cane to wetlands as a proof of concept for farmers. Rising sea levels are encroaching on sugar-cane areas across tropical Queensland, making this land unusable and unprofitable. However, it could be transitioned to coastal wetlands for carbon benefit while helping farmers through abatement payments. The site will be promoted and used to scale up restoration efforts across the region, potentially resulting in many tonnes of greenhouse gas captured.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s mission is the effective conservation of all Australian animal species and the habitats in which they live.

Funding will support AWC to develop and launch a Biodiversity Credit Unit pilot to provide proof-of-concept for an innovative financial instrument that helps the market address the biodiversity crisis and drives capital toward nature-positive outcomes.

AWC will negotiate an agreement with a financial counterparty who will purchase the Credit Units which AWC will generate through a series of flora and fauna improvements at a test site at one of AWC’s sanctuaries. The project has the potential to lay the groundwork for further broad scale market adoption of high quality biodiversity offsets.

The Orangutan Project works to protect and promote the welfare of orangutans, and their vitally important natural habitat, across Indonesia.

The Sebangau Peatland Restoration Project is protecting and restoring critical orangutan habitat in Borneo at high risk of seasonal wildfires by restoring drained and deforested peatlands while simultaneously improving local firefighting capacity. The goal is to deliver substantial positive change for biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and sustainable livelihood development by working at the grassroots level to address the causes of fire and restore burnt areas of the Sebangau National Park.

ygap is an international organisation that creates positive change by making entrepreneurship more inclusive. They believe that business can be a force for good, and that entrepreneurship is key to solving the most challenging social and environmental problems facing our world today.

In 2023 and 2024, ygap will actively seek, and support, women entrepreneurs in Kenya to grow local, scalable climate ventures addressing agricultural output, food scarcity, mobility, waste and energy access, among other critical issues. Entrepreneurs will participate in a week-long boot camp, receive intensive venture support and mentoring over 12 months, and access to market and investor opportunities. ygap will optimise program delivery in year two, supporting a second round of climate-focused entrepreneurs.
