Stephen (more commonly known as Steve in the industry) joined the Board in July 2012 as a Non-Executive Director and on 4 February 2013 was appointed Chair of Australian Ethical Investment Limited (AEI). He chairs the People, Remuneration and Nominations Committee, is a member of the AEI and AES Audit, Compliance and Risk Committees and is now the Chair of Australian Ethical Superannuation Pty Limited (AES) and the Australian Ethical Foundation Ltd.
Steve has a long history of involvement in the investment and superannuation industries, particularly focused on ethical and responsible investing. From 2000 to 2008 he was CEO of ARIA, the trustee of the CSS,PSS and PSSap superannuation schemes for Commonwealth Government employees. ARIA (now known as CSC) was and remains one of the largest superannuation schemes in Australia. Prior to ARIA, Steve was CEO of the industry body Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST). His earlier career was in the trade union movement.
Steve received a personal invitation from the then Secretary of the United Nations (UN) to join the steering committee which developed what has become the UN Principles of Responsible Investment (UNPRI) and was the only Australian to be so invited. Steve was also Chair of the Responsible Investment Academy Advisory Council and was a member of the ASX Corporate Governance Council from its inception until 2008.
Stephen is a director of Ecosystems Investment Management (Australia) Pty Ltd and an Expert Panel member of the Fair Work Commission.

Mara joined in 2013 and is a member of the AES and AEI Audit, Compliance and Risk Committee and director of Australian Ethical Investment Ltd. Mara is a member of the AEI People, Remuneration and Nominations Committee and is a Director of Australian Ethical Foundation Ltd. Mara brings more than 20 years of business and community experience to Australian Ethical. Mara is Chairman of Gold Coast Waterways Authority, a Non-Executive Director of Enova Community Energy, and an Industry Fellow of the Griffith Business School’s Centre for Sustainable Enterprise.

Kate joined in 2013 and is chair of the AES and AEI Audit, Compliance and Risk Committee and a Director of Australian Ethical Investment Ltd. Kate is a member of the AEI People, Remuneration and Nominations Committee and a Director of Australian Ethical Foundation Ltd.
Kate is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors with extensive knowledge of finance and risk. As a former Partner with PwC, Kate has worked in both Australia and the UK, and has over 20 years’ experience in providing assurance and advisory services to clients in the financial services industry.
Kate also contributes to the wider community and is currently a Director, and chair of the Finance Committee, for a not for profit organisation.

Michael joined in 2017 as a non-executive director and has more than 30 years’ experience in investment, consulting and leadership of financial services organisations both in Australia and internationally.
He was Managing Director of State Super Financial Services Australia Limited (StatePlus) from 2011 to 2016 and
previously was a partner in the actuarial practice of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, the CEO of Intech Investment
Consultants and held senior executive positions at Deutsche Bank, IBM and Lend Lease Corporation.
Michael is currently Deputy Chair of HammondCare, an aged care provider and a director of Alpha Vista Financial
Services, a start-up global business leveraging large scale data and computing capabilities and artificial intelligence.

Julie joined the board in 2018 as a non-executive director and has over 20 years of experience in executive and board roles including experience with superannuation, investments, financial planning, stockbroking, research, insurance, audit, finance, acquisitions and business integration.
Julie’s most recent executive experience is as Group General Manager Corporate Development and General Manager Operations for IOOF. She was previously Director Finance India and Asia Pacific for Standard and Poor’s; Head of Research for Morningstar; Chief Operating Officer at Intech; and Senior Audit Manager with Ernst & Young.
Julie’s board experience includes Perennial Value Management, Ord Minnett, Tax Payers Association (NSW) Division and Tax Payers Research foundation.

Phil is the Managing Director of Australian Ethical Investment, Australia’s leading ethical superannuation fund and investment manager with over $2.6bn in funds under management.
Phil has over 30 years’ experience in financial services. Prior to Australian Ethical he was a senior Executive with Perpetual Limited. He is a Director of the Responsible Investment Association of Australia and the Planet Ark Environmental Foundation. He is Chairman of Climate Change Think Tank, a climate change research organisation.
