Appointment of Chief Investment Officer
Australian Ethical has pleasure in announcing the appointment of James Jordan, currently Head of Research, as its Chief Investment Officer replacing Martin Halloran who leaves the organisation on 30 June 2010.
Mr Phillip Vernon, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Ethical, said ‘I am very pleased to be able to appoint someone of the calibre of James to the role. He has been a key part of the investment team for a number of years and is highly respected both internally and externally. His appointment demonstrates the depth of talent we have within the business and provides stability for our investment team and continuity of the investment process for our clients.’
Mr Jordan has been with Australian Ethical since 2006. He joined initially as an Equities Analyst in 2006 and was Acting CIO for much of 2008 overseeing strong investment performance by the investment team during what was a challenging period for the markets. Appointed Head of Research in late 2008 he has since had responsibility for all analysts within the team and has driven significant improvements over that time to Australian Ethical’s investment disciplines, research processes and valuation methodologies drawing on his strong quantitative background.
Prior to joining Australian Ethical, Mr Jordan had a long career as a senior economist with various Commonwealth Government departments. Highlights of his career in government included being senior adviser on taxation and superannuation policy, being a member of the working group that prepared the first Intergenerational Report and working on reform options for pharmaceutical pricing and health system financing.
Mr Jordan said ‘ Australian Ethical was a pioneer of socially responsible investment in Australia and has an investment style that is well suited to the current volatile state of the markets. I am pleased to be taking on a greater role within the organisation and to continue the delivery of consistent, long-term and sustainable investment returns for our clients.’
Mr Vernon said ‘I welcome James to the management team of Australian Ethical. The retirement and investment landscape will be evolving significantly over the coming years and James’s strong background in investment management, economics and government policy will be invaluable as we continue to deliver products and services for our clients to suit the evolving landscape.’
